When modelling a square or rectangular column on a base plate, the program only considers weld along the flat portion of each HSS face. In my experience, these are welded all-around 99% of the time. It is especially important for smaller HSS shapes with moment. We often model HSS1.5x1.5 or HSS2x2 for guardrail posts. At the very least, provide an option to weld all-around & leave it up to the engineer to decide.
Hello Tom, this seems to be a quick enhancement, but we would like to check the procedure you follow for the all-around welds specially for the curved portions. Do you think you could provide a quick hand calcs so we can check with our actual procedure.
